incredibly well mannered --
when we leave we place a card table across the hallway to keep spaniel in the back of the house -- computer room, 1st bedroom, and the bathroom. so far this seems to work for her - no messes, nothing chewed up. and no need to crate.
she does not get up on the kitchen counters, stays out of the cupboards, does not bother with any of the stuff sitting around.
the water bowl in the kitchen is not played in or dumped. and she does not make a mess when she drinks out of the 20 gal fish tank.
she is very neat with her food and pans. no mess, no fuss. cleans up her breakfast and supper. eats her kibbles 1 bit at a time.
when she is inside -- she has learned to go out into the kitty pen when she needs to go and NOT to potty on the good rug. or just to chase the snow flakes.
she is a lap baby so she can get up in the chairs but, not on the couch.
she can have a wash rag or a sock to chew on and knows not to pickup any thing that happens to be lying around.
does not chew up cords, books, magazines, plants, etc.

P - info
This little doggy loves to run. and run, and run. simple joy of running. and running. the yard is now her race track all along the fence around the pine trees, and thru the rows of bushes. round and round all 130' x 200' back yard. add bunnies and she does not want to stop running and then you have to pick her up and carry her inside.
She has figured out how to work the doggy doors out to the enclosed kitty pen. Doggy door 1 (built into the outside wall under window in the computer room) goes outside into a plywood box with a 2nd door that has a ramp down into the pen. spaniel likes to jump up on this box and look thru the window into the computer room. -- knock, knock let me in....
Inside -- the living room opens into the kitchen and the hallway creating a circle that she has mastered running at full speed, usually with a toy locked in her jaws. favorite play is to lay all sprawled out (frog style) with a plushy squeaker chewing and squeaking non stop -- squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak,
there is a panel (36" sq) with a 6" hole across the 2nd bedroom doorway -- cats can go in and out but not the spaniel. this has created a game of "get the Kitty" -- kitty in bedroom, spaniel in hallway, woof, woof, yowl, howl, hiss.
spaniel is so silly - when she plays with the kitty she drops down in front and has her tail end sticking up - wiggling and scooting, she uses her big fluffy paws to bat at the kitty all the while doing her best to not be scratched. kitty usually runs the spaniel all the way down the hallway into the bathroom. (little Kitty is the Boss).

true lap baby -- spends the evenings curled up with me in a recliner or office chair.
loves to play - she prefers to chew on fingers - chews and chews on her plush squeakys and will chase a ball till she drops.
learning to tolerate the house kittys. Little kitty is nosing up to her and sharing a chair. Big kitty is hateful. : ( !
she is NOT a begger - while she eats up biscuits and duck jerky - she does not bother with people food! now if only she would eat her dog foods.
she now knows how to get into the house from kitty pen thru the doggy door - needs to learn how to go out,

P in the truck 00400-411
Spaniel climbed rite into pickup truck cab. she figured out how to go from the seats to the inside shelf thru the slide window to the outside shelf -- in and out - out and in - in -out - and down into the box back up on the shelf - left to right and right to left.
traveling is a real snooze -- she simply curls up on the inside shelf and sleeps all the way (safety chain to her harness).
(helping clean-up a yard) parked the truck in the back yard. walked her around showing her the place. left her in the truck - leash to her harness - leash to safety chain. she went front to inside shelf to back shelf and out thru the pipe sides down to the ground I said - NO, NO, NO, puppy stays IN truck box NOT allowed out thru the sides. so I picked her up and stuffed her back in thru the pipes (the way she slipped out) and back onto the shelf . a tap on the nose and state the rules.
She spent the day either in the truck or out on a line in the grass. absolute doll - no trouble at all (well that 1 slip thru the side).
no problems, no fuss, no barking - even with the hounds next door, she was perfectly quiet and well behaved.

P day 1 00393-399
Spaniel - adopted 10-28-10 spaniel/poodle mix - 1 1/2 yrs 20# black & white, skinny and matted ears.
Quincy Humane Shelter
at the shelter intro room she was timid and way shy, pawing at the door trying to get out and to get away - to hide, wanted nothing to do with either of us. so I sat down on the floor my side to the door. now she had to go thru me to get to the door. I did my best not to look at her and to talk softly to her. 10 minutes of pacing and trying to get to the door turned into sly snuggling up to my back. talk softly and a little ear petting to sitting in my lap. 30 minutes and I was able to pick her up for all of a minute. All adopted, snapped on her leash and out the door she went. excellent leash trained walk in the grass by the parking lot out to the car. she let me pick her up and place her in a crate that was strapped in the back seat. wiggles and a whimper - she curled up and slept in the crate for the 1 hr car ride home.
Home - so scared - at first all she wanted was to hide. and then there was the bath -- filled the tub with warm soapy water- picked her up and carefully set her in expecting a fight or fear - Surprised to find full cooperation - amazed she even lifted her paws and tilted her head up. set her out to dry and she stood still for the towelling. open the door to an all new doggy ! like a switch from off to on - full steam - she ran and played for an hour around the living room and down the hall around and around she ran until she fell over.
she spent the evening snuggled up in a lap. Bedtime what to do with her? she pounced on my bed - wiggled for 30 min. then slept thru to 7 am - woke up to wiggles.
house cats are terrified. Big Kitty in basement & Little Kitty high up on a shelf.
Very well Leash trained, no problems with the cable tie out. turned her loose in the fenced back yard and watched her run and run and run all along the fence around the pines and thru the bushes.
wiggles, slurps, and Nipper. yes she is a Nipper - she likes to grab your fingers and pull you around where she wants to go.
